CHIDEOCK WI

Back in February 2025 Chideock WI enabled the acquisition of a new defibrillator for the village. It is now positioned on the wall of the Spar shop in the centre of the village and is maintained by West Dorset Leisure Holidays.
We started a fundraising campaign and due to the generosity of local people and organisations we have paid for the defibrillator and have £1,170 in the bank to cover the cost of new pads and batteries as and when they are needed. There will also be money to put towards the renewal of the defibrillator which will be necessary some time in the future.

The next move is to hand the money over to a group of younger people within the village who can open a bank account and manage the account on behalf of the village – more news on this shortly.

In June this year WI members across the country voted in force to support a major new campaign for 2025/6, titled Bystanders can be Lifesavers – to increase vital CPR and defibrillator skills across the UK. Chideock WI was ahead of the curve and at our meeting in July we welcomed a local healthcare professional who taught us how the defibrillator worked, how to use it and how to carry out CPR.

Founded in 1919, we are a welcoming group of ladies who meet in Chideock Village Hall on the first Tuesday of the month at 2.30 pm. We also have several interest groups who meet up regularly (Book, Garden and Walking Groups). With a lively membership there is lots going on and you can be involved as much, or little as you want.
