HELPING HANDS
The Big Green Week 2021
Chideock Village Hall
Our village hall has undergone a major refurbishment during 2020 and we were delighted to be asked to produce a piece of artwork for the meeting room. The Craft Group came up with a mixed media coastal scene which will look stunning when it is installed.
Royal Voluntary Services
Answering a call for help from the Royal Voluntary Services, who like many charities have seen their income decimated during the past few months, some of our ladies dug out their knitting needles and knitted Teddies which will be attending a Teddies Picnic in October and then be sold off to raise much-needed funds for the RVS. Here's a photo of a few of them enjoying tea in the garden.
Coronovirus Support
During the Covid-19 pandemic of 2020 our WI rose to the challenge of providing support to West Dorset Scrubbers who co-ordinated the efforts of volunteers across the region to provide personal protective equipment i.e. scrubs, face masks and wash/laundry bags to our health care professionals.
Totals now stand at
Scrubs 90
Wash bags 1158
Knitted mask bands 173
Dorset Reading Partners
This organisation provides reading assistance to children across Dorset. We were able to help by making 40 Story Telling Bags themed on books which volunteer reading partners are able to take into schools.
MacMillan Breast Cancer Support
We continue to provide help by making heart-shaped comfort cushions, drainage bag holders and seat belt pads for those who have undergone mastectomy surgery, which are gratefully received by the MacMillan Nurses in Dorchester.
Cupboard Love - Bridport Food Bank
At our February 2020 meeting we received a very interesting talk and update on the work carried out by our local food bank in Bridport and were delighted to be able to help out at Christmas by providing Cupboard Love with 100 cheerful shopping bags.
